As the new season edges ever closer, I would like to take the opportunity to update the membership on the current condition of the course and recent work carried out.
Greens - Our winter aeration program has come to an end with a final solid tine of the greens at the beginning of March. This was followed by top dressing, firming and smoothing them and they have since been fed with granule fertiliser. This has strengthened the grass plant and giving a boost of colour.
Tees - All Tees and surrounds have also been fed with slow release fertiliser. The 13th medal and 15th tees are taking shape with the new turf settling in well. The 13th tee will be on and ready for the start of the season, however, due to the nature of the 15th tee and to reduce damage, a mat will be used for the first few weeks of the season.
Bunkers - Grass face bunkers have been cut and edged. The new bunkers at 14 and 15 will be in play for the start of the season, but the new turf will remain GUR with drop zones to protect and allow the turf to deeper root.
Please note the following dates
Tuesday 26th March - mats will no longer be compulsory.
Thursday 28th March - all tees will be on, with the exception of the 15th, this will have a mat in front of the tee. We are looking to move the mat onto the tee on Saturday 6th April. This will be reviewed weekly until we are satisfied that the new turf is ready for play.
The 14th and 15th greens will also be open for play, as will the bunkers. The new turf will remain GUR with designated drop zones surrounding these areas. Please take relief to the nearest DZ.
I hope everyone has a great season and I look forward to seeing you all out on the course.
Kind regards
Graeme Martin
